So has anyone gotten any value out of LinkedIn groups? I've never found them to be particularly useful and it seems that most of the time the only people that are active in them are selling something.
The only groups I've found to be of value are those which are the online "home" for an offline local group. For example, I co-founded the Social Media Club of Rochester and we use the LinkedIn group as a place to disseminate messages about the next meetup, for the most part. And sometimes people will discuss social media issues, but even then, most of them do so with the underlying goal of marketing their services versus genuine interest in the topic being discussed.
I'm also an admin for a LinkedIn group for Rochester, NY lawyers and again--we just use it to organize gatherings, more than anything else.
So what's your experience with LinkedIn groups? Do they have any value for lawyers?
